the math literacy project

at the environmental charter high school

our inspiration:

“math literacy and economic access are how we are going to give hope to the young generation...  the idea of citizenship now requires not only literacy in reading and writing but literacy in math and science.  and the way we guarantee this necessary literacy is through education conceived of much more broadly than what goes on in classrooms.”

bob moses, founder of the algebra project

our mission:

the math literacy project provides extensive and alternative opportunities so that all students can achieve in a college preparatory mathematics curriculum so that they may gain access to educational, economic, and social resources that will lead to individual empowerment, independence, and social justice.

resources for educators

at echs, we strive to bring interdisciplinary topics into our math classrooms that focus on problem solving, collaboration, and critical reasoning. if you’re a math teacher and want to learn more, click here.

furthermore, we coach non-math teachers to develop strategies on how to use numerical literacy to help further the critical reasoning and comprehension of their students. the purpose is to help teachers use basic math to help students develop a more critical understanding of non-math standards. interested? click here.
